How to Stay Safe and Have Fun at a Music Festival Alone

By Brittany Loeffler on May 10, 2018

There are a million reasons as to why your friends can’t come with you to a music festival to see your favorite performer. It could be a money issue or scheduling conflict. No matter what the reason, you shouldn’t miss attending an incredible music festival just because you don’t have a group to go with.

Don’t limit your activities just because you have nobody to enjoy them with. Attending a music festival alone will probably be one of the best experiences of your life! We’ve come up with some tips on how to stay safe and still have fun when you attend a music festival alone.

Take Responsibility

It’s important to accept responsibility for everything when it comes to attending a music festival alone. You won’t have your friends there to lend you a phone charger or make campsite reservations. Everything is up to you.

Make sleeping arrangements well in advance. This could be camping or staying in a nearby hotel, whichever you prefer. If you decide to camp, just remember that you’ll have to put up your tent, make a fire, and bring a flashlight.

Make Friends

Just because you arrived at the music festival alone doesn’t mean that you have to enjoy the music festival alone. Make friends with other festival goers. You may even find someone else who went alone that you can latch onto.

It can be hard to break the ice for some people. Just remember to smile and look like you’re having fun and a simple “hello” can take you a long way. Who knows, you may meet your new best friend or musical festival buddy there!

Get to Know Your Surroundings

Before you start partying and dancing, take some time to get to know your surroundings. Since you are alone, it’s important to have a sense of where you are in case you need to get out a certain situation. Keep an eye out for emergency exits and safety zones that have medical staff and security.

Know your way back to your hotel or campground. If you’re camping, chances are that nobody else is going to know exactly where your tent is. After a long day and night of dancing and watching performances, it’s important to know how to get back to where you are staying.

Always Be Aware

Traveling anywhere alone puts you at risk of danger. When attending a music festival alone, you should always be aware of your surroundings. Be aware of the people around you. Be aware of where you place your drink. Be aware of the positioning of your bag. You don’t want someone to steal anything or slip something in your drink without having anyone there to worry about you.

When it comes to drinking at music festivals, some people can get a little carried away. Since you’re at a music festival alone, take it slow on the alcohol consumption. You don’t want to get so drunk that you aren’t aware of what is going on or where you are.

Stay Hydrated

Most music festivals happen during the warmer months, so it’s important to stay hydrated. Your friends won’t be there to remind you to drink water constantly. You don’t want to pass out from dehydration when you’re alone either.

Live in the Moment

Put your phone in your pocket and just live in the moment! We have a tendency to scroll mindlessly on our phones when we are in a public place alone to avoid talking or people or draw attention. When you attend a music festival alone, you want to be open and approachable. You should also live in the moment and take in every song, every performance, and every person that you meet. These memories will last you a lifetime and you’ll want to remember every single moment.

Do What You Want

Sometimes being alone is the best thing ever! When you go to a music festival alone you get to do anything you want. You get to see your favorite performer that none of your friends like. You can sit in the grass and simply people watch for hours on end. Or you can get crazy and fight your way to the front of the stage. It’s completely up to you! Cater your music festival experience to your interests.

Stay Safe and Have Fun

You may hear from your friends and family that it isn’t safe to go to a music festival alone. Of course, going to a music festival alone may be a little more dangerous than when going with a group, but if you take preventative measures such as making sleeping arrangements beforehand, being aware of your surroundings, knowing where safety zones and emergency exits are, and making friends, you should be fine! Don’t forget to have fun along the way too.
